Verdict
The clearest difference is in-app purchases: Digital Puppet at none against Close Cities's 4. Digital Puppet also leads on review sentiment (100% vs 69%) and update cadence (every 10 days vs every 3 weeks). Close Cities's advantage is rating (4.8 vs 4.6) and ratings volume (356 vs 27). On price, ads and device support there is nothing between them.

Both are free to download. Close Cities sells 4 one-off in-app purchases. Digital Puppet asks for nothing beyond the download.
Close Cities holds the better App Store score, 4.8 against 4.6. That said, the two scores are not equally well evidenced: Close Cities has 356 ratings behind it against 27, so its average is the more settled of the two. Written reviews complicate that: 100% of Digital Puppet's written reviews are positive against 69% of Close Cities's, so the app with the better star average is not the one people write more warmly about.
Digital Puppet ships an update every 10 days, Close Cities every 3 weeks. The most recent releases landed on September 15, 2026 and October 3, 2026 respectively.
