About

Depth of Field

Stopdown draws the sharp zone instead of handing you a table of numbers. Pick a camera, then set focal length, aperture and focus distance. The band redraws as you go: where sharpness begins, where it ends, how deep it runs, and how much of it falls in front of the focus point and how much behind. Hyperfocal distance stays on screen, so you can see where to focus to send sharpness off to infinity. FREE • Depth of field for any sensor — from full frame down to a phone • Depth of field drawn to scale, with the numbers beside it • Hyperfocal distance, and how much sharpness sits in front and how much behind • Works offline. No account, no ads, no subscription STOPDOWN PRO — ONE PURCHASE, NO SUBSCRIPTION • Focus stacking planner: how many frames to shoot and at what step to cover the whole range • Need a particular depth? We'll find the aperture for it. The same maths, run backwards • Diffraction limit and field of view • 372 camera bodies, each with its own circle of confusion • Saved presets: your kit in one tap • Manual circle of confusion for large prints, 4K and 8K WHY THE NUMBERS CAN BE TRUSTED We use the standard circle of confusion: the sensor diagonal divided by 1442. That is the criterion for an 8×10″ print that looks sharp enough at arm's length. Settings has an Accuracy section — the formula, the assumptions, and the point where the model stops holding. You can check the app instead of taking it on faith. PRIVACY Every calculation happens on your device. It needs neither an account nor a connection to work. Anonymous usage statistics show us where people get stuck. You can switch them off in Settings. iPhone only. Metric and imperial units, written the way your region writes them.
