About

Kasetofon

Features

Kasetofon is a cassette recorder, not a list of voice memos. Load a blank tape, press REC, and watch the reels turn and the needle swing. Takes are written straight to 16-bit WAV — mono or stereo, at 44.1, 22 or 8 kHz — and they stay on your device, visible in the Files app. RECORDING • Keep recording with the screen locked. A Live Activity holds the spinning reels, the running time and a STOP key on the Lock Screen. • Tapes stretch as you talk. Run past the end of a side and the tape extends, up to four hours. • A take interrupted by a call or an alarm pauses and picks up again where it left off. • If the app is ever killed mid-recording, the take is recovered the next time you open it. • A five-band graphic EQ on playback — FLAT, VOICE, MUSIC and TAPE presets, or draw your own curve. Monitor-only, with an IN/OUT bypass key: the take on the tape stays clean. • Deck sounds — motor and tape hiss under playback, and if you want, printed into the WAV itself. THE DECK • Six cabinet finishes, from graphite through walnut to 70s beige. • A compact cassette, or an open-reel mechanism with tape threaded across the guides. • A mechanical rev counter, or a real-time counter. • An analogue VU meter with a needle you can colour. TAPE TO TAPE • A dubbing deck — load a take on deck A, a blank on deck B, and print through FERRIC, CHROME or METAL stock, with drive, bump, flutter, hiss and motor on knobs. Prints count their generations, like real copies do. • A splice editor — razor a take into pieces, keep the ones you want, and they render as a new tape. • VID OUT — film the deck playing your take, cassette or open reels, and share it as an MP4 sized for stories or feeds. • KASETOFON DECK — the whole tape circuit as an AUv3 plugin: run any track in GarageBand, AUM or any Audio Unit host through the deck. THE SHELF • Every take on a shelf you can search by name and filter by category or date. • Name your tapes in your choice of handwriting. • Share any take as a WAV, or film it as an MP4 — and import your own WAV files straight onto the shelf. • Optional iCloud Drive storage. Recording and playback are free, forever, with no time limit, no watermark and no account. The Studio Pack is a single purchase that unlocks the dubbing deck, splice editing, VID OUT, the Kasetofon Deck AUv3, the cabinet finishes, the open-reel mechanism, needle colours and label fonts, tape categories, the real-time counter and iCloud storage. The graphic EQ, deck sounds and WAV import are free for everyone.
