The Standard Timer was specifically and specially designed for use in specialty gyms. With standard options for tabata and EMOM, you can easily adapt the timer to work for any workout. The main goal of The Standard Timer was to create a timer where the current time was the focal point of the app. The current time takes up the entire screen, especially great when projected or cast onto larger screens, so everyone in your gym can see it from wherever they are. FEATURES - 5 different modes : Tabata, EMOM, Interval, Stopwatch, Countdown - The ability to add a countdown/warm-up timer to your workout - Quick and easy time adjustment with manual typing and tap (+1, +5, reset) options - HUGE letters that take up the entire screen so everyone can see the time without effort - Remote mode : use this mode from your phone to control other connected devices - Bluetooth capability : Sync multiple devices, for example, control your Mac Mini display using your phone without ever having to touch a keyboard or mouse - Light/Dark Mode capability - Preround/Preworkout sound notifications

Verdict
The clearest difference is monetization model: WOD Timer at free against The Standard Timer's paid. WOD Timer also leads on review sentiment (76% vs 50%) and ratings volume (201 vs 2). The Standard Timer's advantage is rating (5.0 vs 4.8) and chart position (#200 vs unranked). On price, update cadence, ads and in-app purchases there is nothing between them.

WOD Timer costs $4.99 and The Standard Timer $4.99 up front. Neither carries in-app purchases, so what you see is what you pay.
The Standard Timer holds the better App Store score, 5.0 against 4.8. That said, the two scores are not equally well evidenced: WOD Timer has 201 ratings behind it against 2, so its average is the more settled of the two. Written reviews complicate that: 76% of WOD Timer's written reviews are positive against 50% of The Standard Timer's, so the app with the better star average is not the one people write more warmly about.
WOD Timer ships an update every 4 months, The Standard Timer every 2 months. The most recent releases landed on September 18, 2026 and September 19, 2026 respectively.
