Verdict

The call

The clearest difference is rating: Splice at 4.6 against Shamar's 3.9. Splice also leads on update cadence (fortnightly vs every 4 months) and ratings volume (676 vs 14). Shamar's advantage is monetization model (ad-supported vs free with in-app purchases). On price, review sentiment, ads and in-app purchases there is nothing between them.

Both are free to download. Neither carries in-app purchases, so what you see is what you pay.

ReceptionRating · Positive reviews · Number of ratings

Splice holds the better App Store score, 4.6 against 3.9. That said, the two scores are not equally well evidenced: Splice has 676 ratings behind it against 14, so its average is the more settled of the two. Written reviews complicate that: 44% of Splice's written reviews are positive against 50% of Shamar's, so the app with the better star average is not the one people write more warmly about.

UpkeepUpdate frequency

Splice ships an update fortnightly, Shamar every 4 months. The most recent releases landed on October 23, 2026 and October 24, 2026 respectively.
