A blast from the past! Capture your photos with a unique 1-bit camera: only pure black and pure white pixels, no grayscale! BitCam's interface is delightfully old school, featuring chunky buttons and mechanical sounds the likes of which haven't graced your screen in over 40 years. In Camera mode, three different pixel resolutions let you experiment, and an 8-color mode brings you a little closer to the current day while preserving the distinct aesthetic. Or jump over to the editor to dither any photo from your library and experiment with resolutely modern colors & gradients. Clean, high resolution PNG output means you can print those files, use them in digital collages, or other art projects. You can also now run BitCam natively on your iPad, and your Mac! And on Mac, you can install a system extension to use BitCam in any app that uses the camera: Zoom, FaceTime, Google Meet, WebEx, Photo Booth, etc. The camera mode is entirely free and unlimited. The editor mode offers a 3 day trial, after which it requires a one-time in-app purchase for full access, on all of your account's devices.

WATCH ANYWHERE Live streams and full video libraries, in cinema-grade quality that adapts to your phone, your tablet, and your connection. Fast on the subway, sharp on Wi-Fi, with playback that keeps up when everyone shows up at once. GO LIVE FROM YOUR PHONE Start a broadcast in seconds. Stream to Streamplace and multistream to other platforms at the same time, then keep every broadcast in your archive as on-demand video your audience can watch later. SIGN IN WITH THE OPEN SOCIAL WEB Streamplace is built on the AT Protocol, the open network behind Bluesky. Log in with the account you already have. Your identity, your followers, and your videos live on the open web, not inside our app. Follow creators, share streams, and take your audience with you wherever you go. EVERY VIDEO IS SIGNED Each stream and video carries a cryptographic record of who made it and how it was edited, from the moment it leaves the camera. In a feed full of synthetic content, Streamplace lets viewers verify that a video is real and lets creators prove their work is their own. NO LOCK-IN, EVER Streamplace is open source and self-hostable. Your content and your audience are portable. Move to another provider, or run the software yourself, and everything comes with you. FREE, WITH NO ADS Public video on Streamplace is free to watch and free to publish. Video is delivered across an open, decentralized network, so anyone can run a node and help serve the streams they care about. MADE FOR EVERY SCREEN The same open platform runs natively on iOS, Android, web, Mac, Windows, and Linux. Start watching on your phone and pick up on your desktop, with your identity and library intact. FOR CREATORS AND STUDIOS Streamplace is the same infrastructure independent filmmakers, musicians, and studios use to build their own branded video platforms. Whether you are streaming to a few friends or publishing a catalog to a paying audience, it starts here. Streamplace is built in the open by a small team that believes open social will win. Read the code, run a node, or file an issue at stream.place.

Verdict

The call

The clearest difference is in-app purchases: Streamplace at none against BitCam's 2. Streamplace also leads on rating (5.0 vs 4.7). BitCam's advantage is update cadence (every 2 weeks vs every 2 months) and ratings volume (92 vs 4). On price, ads, device support and iOS requirement there is nothing between them.
