Verdict
The clearest difference is review sentiment: NextUp at 72% against Comedy Box's 0%. NextUp also leads on ratings volume (10 vs 3). Comedy Box's advantage is rating (5.0 vs 3.0) and in-app purchases (none vs 11). On price, update cadence, ads and device support there is nothing between them.

Both are free to download. NextUp sells 11 in-app purchases, starting at $7.99 per month. Comedy Box asks for nothing beyond the download.
Comedy Box holds the better App Store score, 5.0 against 3.0. Both are backed by a comparable volume of ratings — 10 and 3 respectively. Written reviews complicate that: 72% of NextUp's written reviews are positive against 0% of Comedy Box's, so the app with the better star average is not the one people write more warmly about.
NextUp ships an update monthly, Comedy Box every 3 weeks. The most recent releases landed on September 28, 2026 and October 1, 2026 respectively.
