Verdict
The clearest difference is rating: Gamestar+ App&Play at 4.2 against CodeGamer's 2.5. Gamestar+ App&Play also leads on ratings volume (3K vs 52). CodeGamer's advantage is in-app purchases (none vs 1) and review sentiment (30% vs 12%). On price, update cadence, ads and device support there is nothing between them.

Both are free to download. Gamestar+ App&Play sells 1 in-app purchase, starting at $3.99 per year. CodeGamer asks for nothing beyond the download.
Gamestar+ App&Play holds the better App Store score, 4.2 against 2.5. That said, the two scores are not equally well evidenced: Gamestar+ App&Play has 3K ratings behind it against 52, so its average is the more settled of the two. Written reviews complicate that: 30% of CodeGamer's written reviews are positive against 12% of Gamestar+ App&Play's, so the app with the better star average is not the one people write more warmly about.
CodeGamer ships an update every 4 days, Gamestar+ App&Play weekly. The most recent releases landed on October 11, 2026 and October 14, 2026 respectively.
