The United Bible Societies organized a team of Bible scholars, translation experts and editorial professionals to implement the revision. Hong Kong Bible Society is the copyright agent of CUNP. 新标点和合本于1988年出版，由联合圣经公会组织一队圣经学者、翻译顾问及编辑人员，展开修订。其特点是以一般现代通用的标点符号代替所用的旧标点；以及使用现代通用的人名和地名，如士班雅改为西班牙。和合本的版权由香港圣经公会代理。和合本分為「上帝」版和「神」版，区别在於上帝版的經文中出現「上帝」的地方，神版都用「神」前加空格代替。因為對於基督教的至高主宰，中文應該翻譯為「上帝」還是「神」，晚清的西方宣教士爭論了幾十年仍未解決，和合本便採用這種折衷方法。
