Verdict

The call

The clearest difference is rating: PrivateVPN at 4.6 against VPNClient's 2.8. PrivateVPN also leads on update cadence (every 2 months vs every 14 months) and ratings volume (5K vs 12). VPNClient's advantage is in-app purchases (none vs 3) and iOS requirement (15.6 vs 18.0). On price, ads and device support there is nothing between them.
