SwotWords

The best minutes for learning a word are the ones you'd lose anyway: on the bus, in a line, between two meetings. Every so often SwotWords puts a word on your Lock Screen β tap it, say whether you know the word, and it keeps coming back until you do. β’ Reminders on your terms. Pick how often, the hours and the days β weekends off, if you like. Leave a few unanswered, and SwotWords goes quiet until you open a card again β no hard feelings. β’ A widget on the Home Screen, and in CarPlay too. Answer cards right on it, without opening the app. β’ Apple Watch. Answer a card from your wrist while your phone stays in your pocket. β β’ iPad. Sort out your words on the big screen: folders, the list and the word you picked, all in view, in as many windows as you like. Best done from the couch. β’ Your own words. Type them in or import a list: a CSV file or plain βword - definitionβ lines. β’ No list yet? Any AI chatbot will write one at your level and on your topic β the import screen hands you the prompt. β’ Ready-made word sets. The 300 most useful words and 19 themes, from food and travel to feelings, in any two of 34 languages. β’ Numbers, for the brave. The card deals a random number to say in your head, then shows how it is spelled and how it sounds. Try 97 in French. β’ Folders, a transcription for each word if you want one, spoken words, a mode for typing the answer, and export to CSV. A word counts as learned after as many right answers as you set. β’ On the Mac too, in the menu bar, and just as free. iCloud keeps the same words on your iPhone, iPad, Apple Watch and Mac. β’ Shortcuts and Siri can add words, deal the next one and tell you how far along you are β or ask out loud: βSiri, quiz me in SwotWords.β SwotWords started on the Mac in 2017 as a small app for learning words in between other things, and we still learn our own words with it. Thank you for giving it a try! If something is missing or not working, βContact usβ in the app writes straight to us. Everything in the app is free. If it helps you, there is a tip jar in Settings.
