Many children, adolescents, and adults struggle to eliminate speech errors affecting the American English 'r' sound. Research suggests that these errors can in some cases be eliminated through biofeedback, where learners view a dynamic visual image of their speech and attempt to match a target representing correct production. staRt ("Speech Therapist's App for /r/ Treatment") aims to make biofeedback treatment for /r/ widely accessible to practicing speech-language pathologists. Features: - Tutorial explaining how to interpret and use the biofeedback display - "Free play" mode where users match their real-time visual-acoustic display to a target representing correct production of ‘r’ - "Quest" mode presenting syllables/words for 'r' practice; complexity increases or decreases in an adaptive fashion based on recent performance - "Quiz" mode for use in measuring baseline performance and tracking progress - Visual rewards reinforcing improvements in performance - Clinician dashboard tracking progress over the course of treatment

About

LispApp

Start learning the /s/ sound today with LispApp’s interactive exercises! LispApp is a mobile application designed to support speech therapy and to be used for practice at home. The app has been developed together with American speech-language pathologists. Both the content and structure follow effective methods used in speech therapy for practicing the /s/ sound. LispApp is suitable for children of all ages, from 3 years old up to the teenage years. However, we recommend that an adult and child use LispApp together – this way the adult can support the child when needed, while also spending quality time learning together. The structure of LispApp: Auditory bombardments – First, we learn what the /s/ sound is like. The child listens to many model words where /s/ appears in different positions. Listening for /s/ – Next, the child practices recognizing whether /s/ appears in a word or not. This strengthens awareness of the sound. Oral motor exercises – Then we practice tongue and mouth motor skills, making it possible to produce the /s/ sound at all. These exercises strengthen tongue control and airflow. Making the /s/ sound – Fourth, we start shaping the /s/ sound through the /t/ sound (t → tsss → s). This helps the child find the correct tongue placement and airflow. /s/ in syllables – After that, we move to syllable practice. The child works on using /s/ in simple syllables such as sa, si, su, as, is, us. /s/ in words – The final section is placing /s/ into words in different positions, as well as practicing common consonant blends. The app includes a variety of fun activities for practicing speech. Terms of Use: https://www.apple.com/legal/internet-services/itunes/dev/stdeula/
