Verdict
The clearest difference is rating: HamAlert at 4.0 against HFpager's 3.0. HamAlert also leads on in-app purchases (none vs 1) and ads (none vs shown). HFpager's advantage is update cadence (every 3 months vs every 5 months) and iOS requirement (12.4 vs 15.6). On price, review sentiment and device support there is nothing between them.

Both are free to download. HFpager sells 1 in-app purchase, starting at $9.99 per year. HamAlert asks for nothing beyond the download.
HamAlert holds the better App Store score, 4.0 against 3.0. That said, the two scores are not equally well evidenced: HamAlert has 34 ratings behind it against 1, so its average is the more settled of the two. Written reviews complicate that: 67% of HamAlert's written reviews are positive against 71% of HFpager's, so the app with the better star average is not the one people write more warmly about.
HamAlert ships an update every 5 months, HFpager every 3 months. The most recent releases landed on October 16, 2026 and October 12, 2026 respectively.
