WeCroak vs Spuren

As seen in 10% Happier, Atlantic Magazine and The New York Times. Find happiness by contemplating your mortality with the WeCroak app. Each day, we’ll send you five invitations at randomized times to stop and think about death. It’s based on a Bhutanese folk saying that to be a happy person one must contemplate death five times daily. The WeCroak invitations come at random times and at any moment just like death. When they come, you can open the app for a quote about death from a poet, philosopher, or notable thinker. You are encouraged to take one moment for contemplation, conscious breathing or meditation when WeCroak notifications arrive. We find that a regular practice of contemplating mortality helps spur needed change, accept what we must, let go of things that don’t matter and honor things that do. We’ve also added features to make WeCroak work with your modern life. • WeCroak only sends notification between 7 AM and 10 PM • Open the app once per week to keep receiving your five daily WeCroak invitations at randomized times Join the WeCroak Leap Monthly Subscription to go even deeper with death based mindfulness • Access WeCroak's Daily Review tool and track what matters most to you each day • Enjoy more and harder-hitting WeCroak quotes that are only for subscribers • Receive weekly death mindfulness challenges • Make your own Memento Mori images with your photos Subscription Information: WeCroak contains an optional, monthly, subscription, called "Leap". The people who shape us leave traces. Over time, the smallest details can begin to fade. The exact phrase someone always used. The sound of their voice. A kindness on an ordinary afternoon. A lesson that changed you. The way they made you feel. Spuren is the German word for “traces.” It is a private keepsake for preserving the traces people leave in your life before time softens or carries them away. Unlike a traditional journal, Spuren begins with people, not dates. Each person has a timeline where their words, gestures, stories, and the moments you shared can live together. KEEP THE SMALL THINGS A trace can be: • Something they said • A compliment they gave you • A kindness they showed • A gift with a story behind it • A memory you shared • Wisdom they passed on • A habit, phrase, or way of being that was uniquely theirs Add the story in your own words, record why it matters, and remember how it made you feel. Use an exact date when you know it, or a gentler description such as “Last spring,” “When we first met,” or “A long time ago.” Add photos and voice notes to preserve more than words. If a memory comes to you before a name does, save it first and connect it to someone later. WRITE LETTERS TO KEEP Write private letters to the people in your life. Say what you are grateful for, what you remember, or what you wish you could put into words. These letters are never sent by Spuren. They are yours to keep and revisit in your own time. LET MEMORIES RETURN Spuren quietly brings meaningful moments back through resurfaced traces, On This Day, favorites, search, and a Home Screen widget. There are no streaks, no scores, and no pressure to write every day. CREATE A KEEPSAKE OF SOMEONE Gather one person’s traces, photos, and letters into a thoughtfully designed PDF keepsake. Preview it in Spuren, then save, print, or share it with someone you trust. PRIVATE BY DESIGN Your memories are stored on your device and can sync through your private iCloud account. Protect Spuren with Face ID or your passcode. Export a readable copy of your traces whenever you wish. On supported devices, Apple Intelligence can privately help refine a trace, suggest feelings, offer a writing prompt, draft a letter, or reflect on the themes you have preserved. Processing happens on device. SPUREN PREMIUM Spuren is free to begin. Premium unlocks unlimited people, letters, photos, voice notes, keepsake exports, on-device writing tools, custom trace types, feelings, categories, and date labels. Time passes. Details fade. Spuren gives the precious traces of a person somewhere safe to remain.
