This app is designed to help anyone that is new to PLCs and wants to learn the basics of "How a PLC works" and PLAY with a simple simulator to experiment with some simple programming. The app consist of three main sections, "How a PLC works", "PLC Block Diagram" and the PLC Simulator. The PLC Simulator allows the beginner to learn simple programming skills with 3 timers, 2 counters, 6 compare instructions, 2 Binary outputs and 3 RES outputs. The user interface is very friendly. For first time users, there is an information icon that shows just how easy this app is to program. The NEW SAVE feature allows a user to start a program and come back to it at a later time. This app also helps people better understand the exam-off instruction -[/]-, the "Seal-In" or "Latching" logic, such as a motor start/stop circuit and much more. Enjoy the fast growing world of PLCs. My daughter found it very useful for her Mechatronics class. Try it, you will like it.

Verdict
The clearest difference is review sentiment: PLC Simulator, PLC Trainer at 75% against Hydraulic Calculator Engineer's 0%. PLC Simulator, PLC Trainer also leads on update cadence (every 2 months vs every 22 months) and ratings volume (59 vs 9). Hydraulic Calculator Engineer's advantage is rating (4.3 vs 3.9). On price, ads, in-app purchases and monetization model there is nothing between them.

Both are free to download. Neither carries in-app purchases, so what you see is what you pay.
Hydraulic Calculator Engineer holds the better App Store score, 4.3 against 3.9. That said, the two scores are not equally well evidenced: PLC Simulator, PLC Trainer has 59 ratings behind it against 9, so its average is the more settled of the two. Written reviews complicate that: 75% of PLC Simulator, PLC Trainer's written reviews are positive against 0% of Hydraulic Calculator Engineer's, so the app with the better star average is not the one people write more warmly about.
PLC Simulator, PLC Trainer ships an update every 2 months, Hydraulic Calculator Engineer every 22 months. Both last shipped on October 24, 2026.
