Verdict
The clearest difference is ads: WIS at none against Photo Translator's shown. WIS also leads on update cadence (every 3 weeks vs every 6 months). Photo Translator's advantage is review sentiment (90% vs 59%) and ratings volume (2.4K vs 277). On price, rating, in-app purchases and monetization model there is nothing between them.

Both are free to download. Photo Translator sells 1 one-off in-app purchase and WIS sells 9 in-app purchases, starting at $4.99 per 7 days. Whichever you choose, the download price is not the number that matters.
On the App Store both sit at effectively the same score — 4.6 for Photo Translator against 4.5 for WIS. That said, the two scores are not equally well evidenced: Photo Translator has 2.4K ratings behind it against 277, so its average is the more settled of the two. Written reviews are what separate them: 90% of Photo Translator's written reviews are positive against 59% of WIS's.
Photo Translator ships an update every 6 months, WIS every 3 weeks. The most recent releases landed on November 2, 2026 and November 3, 2026 respectively.
