Verdict
The clearest difference is update cadence: Troop Cooking at every 2 weeks against Masterbuilt's every 3 months. Masterbuilt's advantage is ratings volume (12K vs 10) and rating (4.7 vs 4.3). On price, ads, in-app purchases and monetization model there is nothing between them.

Both are free to download. Neither carries in-app purchases, so what you see is what you pay.
Masterbuilt holds the better App Store score, 4.7 against 4.3. That said, the two scores are not equally well evidenced: Masterbuilt has 12K ratings behind it against 10, so its average is the more settled of the two.
Troop Cooking ships an update every 2 weeks, Masterbuilt every 3 months. The most recent releases landed on October 24, 2026 and October 31, 2026 respectively.
