Verdict

The call

The clearest difference is rating: EV Companion at 4.2 against WattsUp's 2.0. EV Companion also leads on ratings volume (639 vs 1) and update cadence (fortnightly vs every 6 weeks). WattsUp's advantage is in-app purchases (none vs 3) and review sentiment (46% vs 13%). On price, ads, monetization model and device support there is nothing between them.

Both are free to download. EV Companion sells 3 in-app purchases, starting at $9.99 per month. WattsUp asks for nothing beyond the download.

ReceptionRating · Positive reviews · Number of ratings

EV Companion holds the better App Store score, 4.2 against 2.0. That said, the two scores are not equally well evidenced: EV Companion has 639 ratings behind it against 1, so its average is the more settled of the two. Written reviews complicate that: 46% of WattsUp's written reviews are positive against 13% of EV Companion's, so the app with the better star average is not the one people write more warmly about.

UpkeepUpdate frequency

WattsUp ships an update every 6 weeks, EV Companion fortnightly. Both last shipped on October 25, 2026.
