MorseZapp is a great way to learn morse code. It's a fun and unique CW trainer of International Morse Code. Each level challenges you to learn the correct sequence of dits and dashes to zap the letter before it hits the bottom of the screen. Great for learning morse code for amateur radio, ham radio, military, or just tapping out a message to your friends. You tap the dit and dash sequence on the tap pad at the bottom of the screen to create the correct letter. Tap fast for a dit, and hold a little longer for a dash. Sound hints and visual clues help you with beginner levels, showing you the sequence for the letter that is up and playing the sound for that letter to help you recognize it both visually and with audio. Levels help you get the timing right, and each level progressively gets faster to work on your speed and to challenge you. Sound only levels make you listen to the dit and dash sequence and then choose the correct letter from a list before it hits the bottom. This helps with sound recognition. * Free to try with the Free Package and Levels. Packages and levels will be improving all the time and we will be adding new packages based on user feedback to challenge you and help you learn morse code / cw faster. You can also create your own package and levels, and share these with others. Have an idea or suggestion? Verdict
The clearest difference is review sentiment: MorseZapp at 71% against Chess Move's 27%. Chess Move's advantage is rating (4.3 vs 4.0) and ratings volume (1.1K vs 76). On price, update cadence, ads and in-app purchases there is nothing between them.
Scored on Price · Rating · Positive reviews · Number of ratings · Update frequency · Ads · In-app purchases · Monetization · Best chart rank · Devices · Requires iOS
Both are free to download. MorseZapp sells 2 in-app purchases, starting at $2.99 per year and Chess Move sells 17 in-app purchases, starting at $3.99 per 7 days. Whichever you choose, the download price is not the number that matters.
Chess Move holds the better App Store score, 4.3 against 4.0. That said, the two scores are not equally well evidenced: Chess Move has 1.1K ratings behind it against 76, so its average is the more settled of the two. Written reviews complicate that: 71% of MorseZapp's written reviews are positive against 27% of Chess Move's, so the app with the better star average is not the one people write more warmly about.
MorseZapp ships an update every 10 days, Chess Move every 3 weeks. The most recent releases landed on October 9, 2026 and October 14, 2026 respectively.
