Verdict
The clearest difference is rating: Scriptable at 4.7 against Code Editor's 3.2. Scriptable also leads on ads (none vs shown) and update cadence (every 4 days vs every 5 weeks). On price, in-app purchases, monetization model and device support there is nothing between them.
Scored on Price · Rating · Positive reviews · Number of ratings · Update frequency · Ads · In-app purchases · Monetization · Best chart rank · Devices · Requires iOS
Both are free to download. Scriptable sells 3 one-off in-app purchases and Code Editor sells 1 one-off in-app purchase. Whichever you choose, the download price is not the number that matters.
Scriptable holds the better App Store score, 4.7 against 3.2. That said, the two scores are not equally well evidenced: Scriptable has 3.8K ratings behind it against 43, so its average is the more settled of the two. Written reviews point the same way: 69% of Scriptable's written reviews are positive against 54% of Code Editor's.
Scriptable ships an update every 4 days, Code Editor every 5 weeks. The most recent releases landed on October 6, 2026 and October 7, 2026 respectively.
