Verdict

The call

The clearest difference is review sentiment: Auth at 67% against Authenticator ·'s 24%. Authenticator ·'s advantage is rating (4.6 vs 4.2) and update cadence (every 9 days vs every 4 months). On price, ads, in-app purchases and monetization model there is nothing between them.

CostPrice · In-app purchases · Ads · Monetization

Both are free to download. Auth sells 5 one-off in-app purchases and Authenticator · sells 15 in-app purchases, starting at $5.99 per 7 days. Whichever you choose, the download price is not the number that matters.

ReceptionRating · Positive reviews · Number of ratings

Authenticator · holds the better App Store score, 4.6 against 4.2. That said, the two scores are not equally well evidenced: Authenticator · has 26K ratings behind it against 5, so its average is the more settled of the two. Written reviews complicate that: 67% of Auth's written reviews are positive against 24% of Authenticator ·'s, so the app with the better star average is not the one people write more warmly about.

UpkeepUpdate frequency

Auth ships an update every 4 months, Authenticator · every 9 days. The most recent releases landed on October 29, 2026 and November 2, 2026 respectively.
