Verdict
The clearest difference is update cadence: Proper Cannabis at every 2 weeks against EssereBlu's every 12 months. Proper Cannabis also leads on ratings volume (1.3K vs 18). EssereBlu's advantage is monetization model (free vs free with in-app purchases) and review sentiment (100% vs 77%). On price, rating, ads and in-app purchases there is nothing between them.

Both are free to download. Neither carries in-app purchases, so what you see is what you pay.
EssereBlu holds the better App Store score, 5.0 against 4.8. That said, the two scores are not equally well evidenced: Proper Cannabis has 1.3K ratings behind it against 18, so its average is the more settled of the two. Written reviews point the same way: 100% of EssereBlu's written reviews are positive against 77% of Proper Cannabis's.
EssereBlu ships an update every 12 months, Proper Cannabis every 2 weeks. The most recent releases landed on October 2, 2026 and October 25, 2026 respectively.
