Verdict
The clearest difference is rating: MedStudy at 4.8 against Kaizen Education's 2.9. MedStudy also leads on update cadence (every 2 months vs every 7 months) and ratings volume (199 vs 7). Kaizen Education's advantage is review sentiment (33% vs 22%) and iOS requirement (11.0 vs 17.6). On price, ads, in-app purchases and monetization model there is nothing between them.

Both are free to download. Neither carries in-app purchases, so what you see is what you pay.
MedStudy holds the better App Store score, 4.8 against 2.9. That said, the two scores are not equally well evidenced: MedStudy has 199 ratings behind it against 7, so its average is the more settled of the two. Written reviews complicate that: 33% of Kaizen Education's written reviews are positive against 22% of MedStudy's, so the app with the better star average is not the one people write more warmly about.
Kaizen Education ships an update every 7 months, MedStudy every 2 months. The most recent releases landed on October 12, 2026 and October 17, 2026 respectively.
