Build, paint, render, and export detailed voxel worlds on iPhone, iPad, and Mac. Voxel Max combines approachable controls with powerful tools for artists, game developers, hobbyists, and first-time creators. Place individual voxels, drag to build larger forms, or use fast shape brushes to block out ideas quickly. Start from scratch or begin with a library of prefab people, furniture, vegetation, architecture, and more. BUILD AND EDIT • Create in a 256 × 256 × 256 voxel workspace • Paint with fast SDF brushes and pressure-sensitive controls • Combine 255 colors with eight material layers for up to 2,040 color-and-material variations • Fine-tune textures, materials, and visual effects • See material changes rendered in real time • Zoom in for precise edits or out to manage complete scenes • Save creations as reusable assets for cloning and scene building RENDER AND PRESENT • Preview creations in augmented reality on iPhone and iPad • Capture photos and videos of your work in the world around you • Use ray-traced lighting and shadows on supported Metal GPUs • Explore Marching Cubes, Outline, and Curvature rendering effects • Add backgrounds and replay your build as a time-lapse in Presenter View IMPORT, EXPORT, AND SHARE • Import and export MagicaVoxel and Qubicle scenes • Import USDZ and GLB scenes and convert them into editable voxel art • Export PNG, Voxel Max Asset Pack, SCNZ, DAE, FBX, GLB, OBJ, STL, and USDZ • Work across iPhone, iPad, and Mac with iCloud syncing FOUNDRY Turn images into 3D assets with Foundry AI, and scan real-world objects on supported devices. AI generation may require a third-party account. From a single voxel to a complete scene, Voxel Max gives you the tools to create wherever inspiration strikes.
Plastic
Create 3D models using volumetric primitives and boolean operations, not polygons. Apply color and make non-destructive edits throughout the entire workflow. Export your creations for animation, rendering, or 3D printing.
- Volumetric modeling with primitives
- Add and subtract operations
- Integrated coloring tools
- Non-destructive editing
- Export to PLY format

In contrast to most other modeling tools, Plastic does not use polygons to define the shape of an object. Instead, you build up a volumetric representation by simply combining primitives with add and subtract operations. The same tools used for modeling can also be used to apply color to the model in one continuous workflow. And, since all of these actions in Plastic are non-destructive, you can easily change aspects of your scene at any point without affecting unrelated work. When you are done, objects can be exported as PLY files to be animated, rendered, or 3D printed with the help of other tools. To get started, create a new project by tapping the “+”-symbol in the project gallery. To edit an object in the scene, you can either tap it twice in the outline or tap the “Edit” button after selecting it and switching to the attributes panel. By tapping the plus button in the outline panel, you can now add strokes to your object and build up its shape. Although I am trying my best to provide a polished experience, Plastic is still in an early stage in its development and occasional bugs, missing features, and frequent design changes cannot be completely avoided. Voxel Max costs $9.99 and Plastic $9.99 up front. Neither carries in-app purchases, so what you see is what you pay.
Voxel Max holds the better App Store score, 4.8 against 3.8. Both are backed by a comparable volume of ratings — 40 and 16 respectively. Written reviews complicate that: 82% of Voxel Max's written reviews are positive against 86% of Plastic's, so the app with the better star average is not the one people write more warmly about.
Voxel Max ships an update every 3 weeks, Plastic monthly. The most recent releases landed on September 24, 2026 and September 9, 2026 respectively.
