Verdict

The call

The clearest difference is rating: Text to Voice at 5.0 against Voice Aloud Reader's 4.6. Text to Voice also leads on iOS requirement (15.5 vs 17.0). Voice Aloud Reader's advantage is ratings volume (19K vs 11) and update cadence (every 2 months vs every 5 months). On price, ads, in-app purchases and monetization model there is nothing between them.

ReceptionRating · Positive reviews · Number of ratings

Text to Voice holds the better App Store score, 5.0 against 4.6. That said, the two scores are not equally well evidenced: Voice Aloud Reader has 19K ratings behind it against 11, so its average is the more settled of the two. Written reviews complicate that: 59% of Voice Aloud Reader's written reviews are positive against 50% of Text to Voice's, so the app with the better star average is not the one people write more warmly about.

UpkeepUpdate frequency

Voice Aloud Reader ships an update every 2 months, Text to Voice every 5 months. The most recent releases landed on October 17, 2026 and October 1, 2026 respectively.
