Verdict

The call

The clearest difference is monetization model: Hours and Pay Tracker at freemium against TimeTracker's subscription. Hours and Pay Tracker also leads on rating (4.6 vs 4.2) and ratings volume (177 vs 33). TimeTracker's advantage is update cadence (every 3 weeks vs every 2 months) and iOS requirement (10.3 vs 12.0). On price, review sentiment, ads and in-app purchases there is nothing between them.

Both are free to download. Hours and Pay Tracker sells 2 in-app purchases, starting at $0.99 per month and TimeTracker sells 8 in-app purchases, starting at $2.49 per month. Whichever you choose, the download price is not the number that matters.

ReceptionRating · Positive reviews · Number of ratings

Hours and Pay Tracker holds the better App Store score, 4.6 against 4.2. That said, the two scores are not equally well evidenced: Hours and Pay Tracker has 177 ratings behind it against 33, so its average is the more settled of the two. Written reviews complicate that: 62% of Hours and Pay Tracker's written reviews are positive against 65% of TimeTracker's, so the app with the better star average is not the one people write more warmly about.

UpkeepUpdate frequency

Hours and Pay Tracker ships an update every 2 months, TimeTracker every 3 weeks. The most recent releases landed on October 14, 2026 and October 15, 2026 respectively.
