Verdict
The clearest difference is rating: K9 Chat at 5.0 against ChatDip Messenger's 4.1. ChatDip Messenger's advantage is ratings volume (14 vs 2) and iOS requirement (15.6 vs 18.5). On price, review sentiment, update cadence and ads there is nothing between them.

Both are free to download. Neither carries in-app purchases, so what you see is what you pay.
K9 Chat holds the better App Store score, 5.0 against 4.1. That said, the two scores are not equally well evidenced: ChatDip Messenger has 14 ratings behind it against 2, so its average is the more settled of the two. Written reviews split almost evenly too, at 100% and 100% positive.
Both ship on a similar rhythm, roughly every 3 weeks. The most recent releases landed on October 6, 2026 and October 16, 2026 respectively.
