Verdict
Beli and PlateTale both sit at 4.8 stars, but that hides the real split: 100% of PlateTale's written reviews are positive against 49% of Beli's. PlateTale also leads on in-app purchases (none vs 83). Beli's advantage is ratings volume (18K vs 1) and update cadence (every 3 days vs every 2 weeks). On price, rating, ads and device support there is nothing between them.

Both are free to download. Beli sells 24 in-app purchases, starting at $5.79 per month. PlateTale asks for nothing beyond the download.
PlateTale holds the better App Store score, 5.0 against 4.8. That said, the two scores are not equally well evidenced: Beli has 18K ratings behind it against 1, so its average is the more settled of the two. Written reviews point the same way: 49% of Beli's written reviews are positive against 100% of PlateTale's.
Beli ships an update every 3 days, PlateTale every 2 weeks. The most recent releases landed on October 28, 2026 and October 16, 2026 respectively.
