Hoist!
Read full descriptionHide full description
Hoist turns a phone, an iPad or a watch into one thing, shown fullscreen, meant to be read by somebody else. A flag at a match. A name at an arrivals hall. A countdown on a shelf. A light at a concert. A candle in a window. Not a widget, not a notification — a screen you point outward and walk away from. What you can show Flags — 273 countries and territories, drawn as artwork, plus a designer for making your own: Nordic cross, horizontal stripes, vertical stripes, your colours. Flags move in the wind, and the wind is one setting for the whole app, from still to storm. Signs — large type on a solid ground, for a name, a room number, a word. Countdowns — to a moment or for a while, drawn four ways: digital, analogue, an hourglass, or a tank that drains. The last seconds flash so a room notices. Photographs — your own, filling the screen, with a chosen ground behind anything transparent. QR codes — a network, a link, a card, at a size that scans across a table. A candle — drawn, not filmed, and steady enough to sit in a window all evening. A light — a flat field of colour, a lighthouse whose beam sweeps round and floods the screen, or a flashing beacon. The torch can join in. On the wrist Everything except photographs reaches Apple Watch, at full brightness with nothing over it. Raise a flag from your wrist without taking the phone out. Without opening the app A Control Centre button, a Lock Screen Live Activity, and Shortcuts — so a display is one press away. Give an occasion a date and Hoist offers it when the day comes. Said plainly Hoist collects nothing. It has no network code at all — nothing to send, nowhere to send it. Flashing light is capped well below the rate that provokes photosensitive seizures, and anything faster asks first. Eleven languages: English, Norwegian, Swedish, Danish, Finnish, German, French, Spanish, Italian, Portuguese and Dutch
