Verdict
The clearest difference is ads: Route One at none against Primitive Skate's shown. Primitive Skate's advantage is ratings volume (1.1K vs 11) and iOS requirement (15.1 vs 17.0). On price, rating, review sentiment and update cadence there is nothing between them.

Both are free to download. Neither carries in-app purchases, so what you see is what you pay.
On the App Store both sit at effectively the same score — 4.9 for Primitive Skate against 5.0 for Route One. That said, the two scores are not equally well evidenced: Primitive Skate has 1.1K ratings behind it against 11, so its average is the more settled of the two. Written reviews split almost evenly too, at 87% and 86% positive.
Primitive Skate ships an update monthly, Route One every 2 months. The most recent releases landed on October 27, 2026 and October 24, 2026 respectively.
