Verdict
Capsules and Obsidian both sit at 4.7 stars, but that hides the real split: 100% of Capsules's written reviews are positive against 62% of Obsidian's. Obsidian's advantage is update cadence (every 3 weeks vs every 10 months) and ratings volume (2.8K vs 3). On price, rating, ads and in-app purchases there is nothing between them.

Capsules holds the better App Store score, 4.7 against 4.5. Capsules ships an update every 10 months, Obsidian every 3 weeks. The most recent releases landed on October 8, 2026 and October 13, 2026 respectively.
