Cognitive behavioural therapy (CBT) is a type of psychotherapy that helps individuals identify and change unhelpful or unhealthy thought patterns and behaviours. The goal of CBT is to positively influence a person’s emotions, behaviour and overall wellbeing. CBT can be used to treat a variety of issues, such as depression, anxiety, phobias and post-traumatic stress disorder. It helps people develop beneficial coping strategies and improve their problem-solving skills. A CBT diary is a tool that is used to record events, thoughts, emotions, body reactions, behaviours, rational responses and cognitive distortions. It is used to track progress over time and help individuals learn more about their thought and behaviour patterns. The diary can also be used to set goals and develop strategies for improving mental health. By writing down their thoughts, emotions, and behaviours, individuals can gain greater insight into their own behaviour and gain new perspectives on the challenges they are facing. Verdict
The clearest difference is rating: Diary at 5.0 against Mintalitea's 4.5. Mintalitea's advantage is update cadence (every 3 weeks vs every 7 months) and ratings volume (17 vs 2). On price, review sentiment, ads and in-app purchases there is nothing between them.
Scored on Price · Rating · Positive reviews · Number of ratings · Update frequency · Ads · In-app purchases · Monetization · Best chart rank · Devices · Requires iOS
Both are free to download. Mintalitea sells 8 in-app purchases, starting at $2.99 per month and Diary sells 1 in-app purchase, starting at $0.99 per month. Whichever you choose, the download price is not the number that matters.
Diary holds the better App Store score, 5.0 against 4.5. That said, the two scores are not equally well evidenced: Mintalitea has 17 ratings behind it against 2, so its average is the more settled of the two. Written reviews complicate that: 72% of Mintalitea's written reviews are positive against 67% of Diary's, so the app with the better star average is not the one people write more warmly about.
Mintalitea ships an update every 3 weeks, Diary every 7 months. The most recent releases landed on September 19, 2026 and August 30, 2026 respectively.
