Verdict
The clearest difference is rating: Dive Story at 2.2 against DiveStory+'s 1.0. Dive Story also leads on ratings volume (13 vs 1). DiveStory+'s advantage is review sentiment (50% vs 23%) and iOS requirement (9.0 vs 13.0). On price, update cadence, ads and in-app purchases there is nothing between them.

Both are free to download. Neither carries in-app purchases, so what you see is what you pay.
Dive Story holds the better App Store score, 2.2 against 1.0. That said, the two scores are not equally well evidenced: Dive Story has 13 ratings behind it against 1, so its average is the more settled of the two. Written reviews complicate that: 23% of Dive Story's written reviews are positive against 50% of DiveStory+'s, so the app with the better star average is not the one people write more warmly about.
Dive Story ships an update every 2 months, DiveStory+ every 6 weeks. The most recent releases landed on October 22, 2026 and October 24, 2026 respectively.
