About

Shelf Life

Features

I've been collecting games, comics, trading cards, and vinyl for years, and got tired of spreadsheets that never stayed up to date. Shelf Life is a free app for tracking a physical (or digital) collection across pretty much any type of collectible, with the social features that make you actually want to keep it updated. Adding items doesn't mean typing everything by hand. Type a title and hit Search, and it pulls cover art and metadata from real databases — IGDB for games, MusicBrainz for vinyl and CDs, and more depending on the type. There's also a barcode scanner for physical items, including a bulk-scan mode for adding a whole shelf at once. Every item gets a trading-card-style layout showing condition, completeness, and current market value pulled from live eBay listings — not a static price guide from years ago. There's a full trophy system, bronze through platinum, for milestones like your first item, collection size, rating items, and following other collectors — each one shows what percentage of collectors have earned it. Trophies add up to a collector level shown on your profile. It's social, not just a spreadsheet with extra steps: follow other collectors, see what they add in a live activity feed, react to their additions, and check leaderboards ranked by trophies, collection size, and value — plus a friends-only leaderboard if you'd rather compete with people you actually know. Search works across everyone's collection, not just yours — see who owns a title, how many people rated it, and the average rating, even for titles nobody's added yet. The shelf mosaic is the feature people screenshot most: your whole collection rendered as an actual shelf, spines lined up, styled like a real bookshelf photo. Filter it by type, year, or value, download it as an image, or share a live link. Set a target price on any wishlist item and get notified the moment it drops to or below that price on eBay. Shelf Life supports nine collectible types (games, comics, trading cards, vinyl, books, DVDs, CDs, consoles, and Funko Pops), installs to your home screen, imports from CSV or a connected Steam account, and exports everything back out whenever you want. It's free, and I'm actively still building on it — feedback is genuinely welcome, good or bad.
