Verdict
The clearest difference is review sentiment: NFC TagKit at 100% against Smart NFC Tools's 30%. NFC TagKit also leads on in-app purchases (none vs 1). Smart NFC Tools's advantage is rating (4.6 vs 4.0) and update cadence (weekly vs every 4 months). On price, ads, device support and iOS requirement there is nothing between them.

Both are free to download. Smart NFC Tools sells 1 one-off in-app purchase. NFC TagKit asks for nothing beyond the download.
Smart NFC Tools holds the better App Store score, 4.6 against 4.0. That said, the two scores are not equally well evidenced: Smart NFC Tools has 478 ratings behind it against 1, so its average is the more settled of the two. Written reviews complicate that: 30% of Smart NFC Tools's written reviews are positive against 100% of NFC TagKit's, so the app with the better star average is not the one people write more warmly about.
Smart NFC Tools ships an update weekly, NFC TagKit every 4 months. The most recent releases landed on October 14, 2026 and October 7, 2026 respectively.
