Verdict

The call

The clearest difference is in-app purchases: Luxometer at none against Light Meter's 4. Luxometer also leads on update cadence (daily vs every 10 months) and review sentiment (60% vs 33%). Light Meter's advantage is rating (4.5 vs 4.0) and ratings volume (116 vs 8). On price, ads and device support there is nothing between them.

Light Meter holds the better App Store score, 4.5 against 4.0. That said, the two scores are not equally well evidenced: Light Meter has 116 ratings behind it against 8, so its average is the more settled of the two. Written reviews complicate that: 60% of Luxometer's written reviews are positive against 33% of Light Meter's, so the app with the better star average is not the one people write more warmly about.

UpkeepUpdate frequency
