Verity is a free news app created by the Improve the News Foundation (ITN), an apolitical American non-profit. It aims to counter misuses of artificial intelligence that have resulted in a distorted online news environment, where alternative facts often overshadow scientific truths, and biased narratives contribute to social discord. Verity’s aim is to empower people to discover the complete and nuanced truth behind every major news story. It does this by separating facts from narratives. This even includes “nerd narratives” from the Metaculus forecasting community. Verity is also a powerful news aggregator facilitating viewing news from multiple perspectives.

Verdict
The clearest difference is in-app purchases: Verity News at none against dbunk's 8. Verity News also leads on ratings volume (59 vs 5). dbunk's advantage is review sentiment (100% vs 73%) and update cadence (every 2 weeks vs every 6 weeks). On price, rating, ads and device support there is nothing between them.

Both are free to download. dbunk sells 8 in-app purchases, starting at $9.99 per month. Verity News asks for nothing beyond the download.
Verity News holds the better App Store score, 4.4 against 4.2. That said, the two scores are not equally well evidenced: Verity News has 59 ratings behind it against 5, so its average is the more settled of the two. Written reviews complicate that: 73% of Verity News's written reviews are positive against 100% of dbunk's, so the app with the better star average is not the one people write more warmly about.
Verity News ships an update every 6 weeks, dbunk every 2 weeks. The most recent releases landed on October 25, 2026 and October 18, 2026 respectively.
