Verdict
The clearest difference is rating: Hinbun at 4.8 against Lingu's 1.0. Hinbun also leads on ratings volume (21 vs 1). Lingu's advantage is review sentiment (86% vs 50%) and in-app purchases (none vs 2). On price, update cadence, ads and device support there is nothing between them.

Both are free to download. Hinbun sells 2 in-app purchases, starting at $6.99 per month. Lingu asks for nothing beyond the download.
Hinbun holds the better App Store score, 4.8 against 1.0. That said, the two scores are not equally well evidenced: Hinbun has 21 ratings behind it against 1, so its average is the more settled of the two. Written reviews complicate that: 86% of Lingu's written reviews are positive against 50% of Hinbun's, so the app with the better star average is not the one people write more warmly about.
Lingu ships an update monthly, Hinbun fortnightly. The most recent releases landed on October 16, 2026 and October 4, 2026 respectively.
