Verdict
The clearest difference is rating: MSD Event Hub at 5.0 against Airthings's 4.4. MSD Event Hub also leads on monetization model (free vs free with in-app purchases). Airthings's advantage is ratings volume (3K vs 1) and update cadence (fortnightly vs every 2 months). On price, ads, in-app purchases and device support there is nothing between them.

Both are free to download. Neither carries in-app purchases, so what you see is what you pay.
MSD Event Hub holds the better App Store score, 5.0 against 4.4. That said, the two scores are not equally well evidenced: Airthings has 3K ratings behind it against 1, so its average is the more settled of the two.
Airthings ships an update fortnightly, MSD Event Hub every 2 months. The most recent releases landed on October 27, 2026 and October 16, 2026 respectively.
