Sgocciola
Read full descriptionHide full description
Sgocciola tells you when to water your plants — and how much water to give, and how. It is not a reminder that repeats every seven days. Sgocciola starts from the species, then corrects the due date with what actually changes: the season, winter dormancy, the material and diameter of the pot, light exposure, the type of soil, the heating you have on indoors. A monstera in a terracotta pot by the window in February is not as thirsty as the same plant in July. 218 SPECIES IN THE CATALOGUE Search by common name, botanical name or synonym — accents and capitals do not matter. Every species comes with its care settings already filled in, and every one of them stays editable. NOT JUST WATER Ten kinds of care, each on its own schedule: watering, fertilizing, misting, rotating the pot, pest checks, leaf cleaning, drainage checks, pruning, repotting, seasonal moves. Turn on only the ones you need — most plants want two or three, not ten. THE DUE DATE FOLLOWS YOU, NOT THE CALENDAR Water early and the next round moves forward. Skip a round and no debt piles up. And you are only late after a tolerance proportional to the interval: one day on a two-week cycle is not an emergency, and the app does not pretend it is. REMINDERS THAT DO THE WORK Local notifications with direct actions: Done, Snooze until tomorrow, Skip this round. Logging a watering does not require opening the app. And if eight plants are thirsty on the same day, you get one notification, not eight. WIDGET AND SIRI The “To water” widget on your Home Screen or Lock Screen, in three sizes. And you can ask Siri what needs doing today, or tell it you have just watered. HOLIDAY MODE Before you leave, it tells you which plants will not make it to your return, and what is worth doing before you close the door. ROOMS Organise plants by room: the bathroom and the south-facing windowsill are not the same place, and the app takes that into account. YOUR DATA STAYS YOURS No account, no server, no advertising, no tracking, no third-party libraries. Your plants sync between your own devices through your private iCloud, and you can export everything as CSV or JSON whenever you like. Italian, English, Spanish, German, French, Dutch, Japanese and Portuguese. Dynamic Type, VoiceOver and Reduce Motion supported throughout: wherever there is a swipe, there is always a button too.

Verdict
The clearest difference is update cadence: Sgocciola at every 2 weeks against Trex AR's every 4 months. Trex AR's advantage is iOS requirement (13.0 vs 26.0). On price, ads, in-app purchases and device support there is nothing between them.
