Verdict
The clearest difference is rating: YRU at 4.3 against JapanLA's 3.6. YRU also leads on ratings volume (180 vs 19) and update cadence (every 3 weeks vs every 2 months). JapanLA's advantage is review sentiment (57% vs 16%) and ads (none vs shown). On price, in-app purchases, device support and iOS requirement there is nothing between them.

Both are free to download. Neither carries in-app purchases, so what you see is what you pay.
YRU holds the better App Store score, 4.3 against 3.6. That said, the two scores are not equally well evidenced: YRU has 180 ratings behind it against 19, so its average is the more settled of the two. Written reviews complicate that: 16% of YRU's written reviews are positive against 57% of JapanLA's, so the app with the better star average is not the one people write more warmly about.
YRU ships an update every 3 weeks, JapanLA every 2 months. Both last shipped on October 24, 2026.
