Verdict
The clearest difference is review sentiment: Decibel Meter at 81% against HYLA's 18%. Decibel Meter also leads on ratings volume (303 vs 2) and update cadence (every 2 weeks vs every 6 weeks). HYLA's advantage is rating (5.0 vs 4.3) and in-app purchases (none vs 12). On price and device support there is nothing between them.

Both are free to download. Decibel Meter sells 10 in-app purchases, starting at $3.99 per 7 days. HYLA asks for nothing beyond the download.
HYLA holds the better App Store score, 5.0 against 4.3. That said, the two scores are not equally well evidenced: Decibel Meter has 303 ratings behind it against 2, so its average is the more settled of the two. Written reviews complicate that: 18% of HYLA's written reviews are positive against 81% of Decibel Meter's, so the app with the better star average is not the one people write more warmly about.
HYLA ships an update every 6 weeks, Decibel Meter every 2 weeks. The most recent releases landed on October 3, 2026 and October 20, 2026 respectively.
