Verdict
The clearest difference is review sentiment: KitchenInvy at 100% against Upshop's 33%. KitchenInvy also leads on rating (5.0 vs 4.4). Upshop's advantage is ratings volume (7 vs 1) and update cadence (weekly vs fortnightly). On price, ads, in-app purchases and monetization model there is nothing between them.

Both are free to download. Neither carries in-app purchases, so what you see is what you pay.
KitchenInvy holds the better App Store score, 5.0 against 4.4. That said, the two scores are not equally well evidenced: Upshop has 7 ratings behind it against 1, so its average is the more settled of the two. Written reviews point the same way: 33% of Upshop's written reviews are positive against 100% of KitchenInvy's.
Upshop ships an update weekly, KitchenInvy fortnightly. The most recent releases landed on October 12, 2026 and October 9, 2026 respectively.
