Verdict
The clearest difference is review sentiment: Yosemite Cinema at 100% against Elevate Entertainment's 39%. Yosemite Cinema also leads on rating (5.0 vs 4.3) and monetization model (ad-supported vs free with in-app purchases). Elevate Entertainment's advantage is update cadence (every 2 months vs every 21 months) and ratings volume (1K vs 6). On price, ads, in-app purchases and device support there is nothing between them.

Both are free to download. Neither carries in-app purchases, so what you see is what you pay.
Yosemite Cinema holds the better App Store score, 5.0 against 4.3. That said, the two scores are not equally well evidenced: Elevate Entertainment has 1K ratings behind it against 6, so its average is the more settled of the two. Written reviews point the same way: 100% of Yosemite Cinema's written reviews are positive against 39% of Elevate Entertainment's.
Yosemite Cinema ships an update every 21 months, Elevate Entertainment every 2 months. Both last shipped on November 3, 2026.
