Verdict

The call

The clearest difference is rating: JPLAY at 4.3 against rooWatch's 3.4. JPLAY also leads on ratings volume (52 vs 5) and iOS requirement (13.0 vs 15.6). rooWatch's advantage is in-app purchases (none vs 3). On price, review sentiment, update cadence and ads there is nothing between them.

Both are free to download. JPLAY sells 3 in-app purchases, starting at $49.99 per year. rooWatch asks for nothing beyond the download.

ReceptionRating · Positive reviews · Number of ratings

JPLAY holds the better App Store score, 4.3 against 3.4. That said, the two scores are not equally well evidenced: JPLAY has 52 ratings behind it against 5, so its average is the more settled of the two. Written reviews complicate that: 67% of rooWatch's written reviews are positive against 59% of JPLAY's, so the app with the better star average is not the one people write more warmly about.

UpkeepUpdate frequency

rooWatch ships an update monthly, JPLAY every 3 weeks. The most recent releases landed on October 5, 2026 and October 12, 2026 respectively.
