„Augmented Reality“ (kurz AR) ermöglicht die Ergänzung einer realen Umgebung mit virtuellen Objekten, Einblendungen und der Einbindung von Erläuterungen. Durch die AR-Anwendung ist eine Simulation von Experimenten als Demonstrations- oder Schülerversuch in natürlicher Umgebung mit authentischen Repräsentationen möglich, die ohne Abstraktion auf schematische Darstellungen auskommt. Die vorgestellte APP erfasst durch die Kamera eines mobilen Endgerätes reale Platzhalterkarten, die durch AR in echte Experimentiergelegenheiten umgewandelt werden. Derzeit unterstützt die App ARX* das Themengebiet der Optik , wobei Objekte wie Laser, Spiegel, Linse oder Prisma in beliebigen Konstellationen arrangiert und unter diversen Fragestellungen untersucht werden können. Die physikalischen Eigenschaften, inklusive Fehlern und Interferenzeffekten, werden korrekt modelliert. Die Anwendung soll auch in andere Themengebiete übertragen werden. Damit werden in AR Experimente ermöglicht, die aus finanziellen, organisatorischen oder sicherheitstechnischen Gründen ansonsten nicht von den Lernenden umgesetzt werden könnten.
