Verdict
The clearest difference is review sentiment: Focus at 86% against FocusGenie's 42%. FocusGenie's advantage is rating (3.6 vs 2.0) and monetization model (free with in-app purchases vs subscription). On price, update cadence, ads and in-app purchases there is nothing between them.
Scored on Price · Rating · Positive reviews · Number of ratings · Update frequency · Ads · In-app purchases · Monetization · Best chart rank · Devices · Requires iOS
Both are free to download. FocusGenie sells 2 in-app purchases, starting at $5.99 per month and Focus sells 3 in-app purchases, starting at $9.99 per month. Whichever you choose, the download price is not the number that matters.
FocusGenie holds the better App Store score, 3.6 against 2.0. That said, the two scores are not equally well evidenced: FocusGenie has 106 ratings behind it against 4, so its average is the more settled of the two. Written reviews complicate that: 42% of FocusGenie's written reviews are positive against 86% of Focus's, so the app with the better star average is not the one people write more warmly about.
FocusGenie ships an update every 3 weeks, Focus every 2 weeks. Both last shipped on November 3, 2026.
