Verdict
Pixelfed and Tactik both sit at 4.2 stars, but that hides the real split: 100% of Tactik's written reviews are positive against 47% of Pixelfed's. Tactik also leads on iOS requirement (12.0 vs 16.4). Pixelfed's advantage is in-app purchases (none vs 1) and ads (none vs shown). On price, rating and device support there is nothing between them.

Both are free to download. Tactik sells 1 in-app purchase, starting at $3.99 per year. Pixelfed asks for nothing beyond the download.
Pixelfed holds the better App Store score, 4.2 against 4.0. That said, the two scores are not equally well evidenced: Pixelfed has 553 ratings behind it against 1, so its average is the more settled of the two. Written reviews complicate that: 47% of Pixelfed's written reviews are positive against 100% of Tactik's, so the app with the better star average is not the one people write more warmly about.
Pixelfed ships an update every 4 weeks, Tactik every 7 months. The most recent releases landed on October 20, 2026 and October 4, 2026 respectively.
