JAX SR vs Ringotron
Price, ratings, monetisation and update history for both apps, side by side — with what reviewers say about each.
JAX SR
This audio effect processor allows selective frequency range processing for modulation effects. It offers a classic chorus with MIDI control and aims to avoid negative side effects by targeting specific frequency bands.
- Selective frequency range processing
- Classic chorus modulation
- Optional direct MIDI control
- Universal app for multiple Apple platforms
- Avoids negative side effects of full-range effects

The manual is available at : https://audio.digitster.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/05/JAX-SR-Chorus-Manual.pdf The JAX SR Series are AudioUnits (AUv3), which allow to select a frequency range for effect processing. This one provides a classic chorus modulation effect with optional direct MIDI control assignment to the parameters. If (especially) modulation effects are applied to the entire frequency range, this usually will introduce negative side effects. The JAX [SR] Series allow a selective frequency range and dynamic adjustment of the mix easily. More information can be found on the product website at: https://audio.digitster.com/ Please note, that AudioUnits (AUv3) require a supporting host application to perform. This build (like all our latest releases) is truly 'universal', meaning, the audio unit is available for: - MacOS (Apple Silicon) - iOS (all actual iPhones) - iPadOS (all actual iPads) - visionOS (Apple Vision Pro) Requirements: MacOS 10.15++ iOS 14.0++
Ringotron
This app offers advanced control over ring modulation effects for sound design and audio processing. Its multi-band design allows precise manipulation of the audio spectrum, with a special soft mode to reduce unwanted intermodulation. It can also function as a resonant filter that smoothly transitions into a ring modulator.
- Parallel ring modulator units
- Stereo separation control
- Ultra-narrow band resonance
- Ribbon controls for frequencies
- Modulation system for band centers
- Tempo syncing for oscillators
- Soft limiter and clipper

Ringotron allows taming the strong transformational effects of traditional ring modulation, opening up a wider range of possibilities in sound design and audio FX. Its multi-band design enables fine control over which parts of the spectrum will be transformed by the effect. A special soft mode is available that borrows concepts from feedback modeling, which can be used to reduce intermodulation effects that are often a limiting factor in the more general applicability of ring modulators. In addition to the layers of control they provide, combination of these core features also allows the plugin to act as a stereo, multi-peak resonant filter that can also smoothly morph into a ring modulator. FEATURES: • 2 parallel ring modulator units (max. modulator frequency: 8 kHz) • Stereo separation can be added to band center, mod. frequency, mod. phase • Ultra-narrow bands can be used to create highly resonant sounds • 4 large ribbon controls for band center and modulator frequencies • Band center frequencies can be modulated by the built-in modulation system • Tempo syncing can be independently configured for each oscillator • Built-in soft limiter and clipper to protect against volume spikes IMPORTANT INFORMATION: The plugin comes with a zero-latency, non-brickwall soft limiter, and as such, its stopping power is limited. Make sure to always leave enough headroom or use an external brickwall limiter for total protection against powerful transients. Alternatively, a built-in soft clipper is also available. PLEASE NOTE: • AUv3-compatible host app is required • Suported sampling rates: 44.1, 48, 96 kHz

Verdict
JAX SR and Ringotron both sit at 5.0 stars, but that hides the real split: 100% of Ringotron's written reviews are positive against 0% of JAX SR's. Ringotron also leads on ratings volume (16 vs 1). JAX SR's advantage is update cadence (monthly vs every 20 months) and price ($6.99 vs $12.99). On rating, ads, in-app purchases and monetization model there is nothing between them.

JAX SR costs $6.99 and Ringotron $12.99 up front. Neither carries in-app purchases, so what you see is what you pay.
On the App Store both sit at effectively the same score — 5.0 for JAX SR against 5.0 for Ringotron. That said, the two scores are not equally well evidenced: Ringotron has 16 ratings behind it against 1, so its average is the more settled of the two. Written reviews are what separate them: 0% of JAX SR's written reviews are positive against 100% of Ringotron's.
JAX SR ships an update monthly, Ringotron every 20 months. The most recent releases landed on September 23, 2026 and October 24, 2026 respectively.
