Verdict
The clearest difference is review sentiment: Ultraviolet Chat at 62% against Switch's 0%. Ultraviolet Chat also leads on ratings volume (721 vs 2). Switch's advantage is rating (5.0 vs 4.1) and update cadence (every 3 days vs every 3 weeks). On price, ads, in-app purchases and monetization model there is nothing between them.

Both are free to download. Switch sells 6 in-app purchases, starting at $6.99 per month and Ultraviolet Chat sells 5 one-off in-app purchases. Whichever you choose, the download price is not the number that matters.
Switch holds the better App Store score, 5.0 against 4.1. That said, the two scores are not equally well evidenced: Ultraviolet Chat has 721 ratings behind it against 2, so its average is the more settled of the two. Written reviews complicate that: 0% of Switch's written reviews are positive against 62% of Ultraviolet Chat's, so the app with the better star average is not the one people write more warmly about.
Switch ships an update every 3 days, Ultraviolet Chat every 3 weeks. Both last shipped on November 3, 2026.
